The Walk
Howard’s Way Walk 2011 covers the Dales Way, covering 84 miles over 3 days which is the equivalent of over a marathon every day!
The Dales Way is an 84-mile (135 km) Long Distance Footpath in Northern England, from (south east to north west) Ilkley, West Yorkshire to Bowness passing through two National Parks: the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Lake District National Park.
The first half of the walk follows the River Wharfe upstream to the main watershed of northern England at Ribblehead. The second half follows several river valleys (Dentdale, River Mint, River Kent) to descend to the shores of Windermere.
300 million years in the making, The Dales Way is formed in the east from great slabs of limestone that have been scarred and broken throughout the ice age to form deep vertical planes and isolated hills. In the west walkers enjoy the landscapes formed by the movement of the earths surface, which pushed ancient rock to the surface creating the splendour of the Lake District.
Everybody that has been involved in any or all of the previous three walks has been elated that they had participated, and said that it was an experience that they would not have missed.
Our walks are difficult; some walkers who have participated say that they are harder than Marathons they have taken part in; but don’t let that put you off. The good that comes out far outweighs the effort and pain put in. We are all proud with what we have achieved so far, so if you would like to help the cause and contributed, we would be very grateful.
You can do so by going to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/HWW2011 and pledging a figure you can afford. If you feel like getting out on one of the walk days and having a chat then why not join us? It would be good to meet you.
