John Maggs
John (Cool Hand) Maggs had spent the previous 4 years training with no particular
aim in mind when Nick suggested joining the first walk a few years back. He
quickly decided that the prospect of seeing grown men (and women) inflicting
hours of pain and suffering on themselves was too good a chance to miss.
He repeated the whole thing on Hadrian's Wall, and it was obvious that he would
wish to do this all over again this year.
Unlike some of the more finely tuned sports people on the walk John has devoted
most of his time to arts and music. Usually he has found that the local Beer
Keller, with lots of singing and accordion playing (not to mention an exceptionally
fine line in waggers) has been a great venue for this, particularly when thirsty,
and as some of you will know training is very thirsty work............
So despite knackered knees and a dodgy back he has signed up again to make
another valiant attempt to put in the miles for the best of causes.
As a native of the North, Hadrian's Wall held no fears for John, nor indeed do the South Downs, which just goes to show how his level of naivety is in direct proportion to his self delusion.....
