Nick Grecian
In a previous life, I played lots of (too much?) rugby for various sides including
London Scottish, Northampton, Newbury, the Barbarians and various Scotland sides.
I now live in Oxfordshire (yards from The Ridgeway) with my wife (Fiona) and three children
(Eleanor, Flora and Angus) and am still Managing Director of the best supplier in the Events
industry – Gallowglass!
Around Christmas 2007, I was up a hill in the Highlands with Howard when we agreed to
undertake the Ridgeway together before he got too ill. It turned out to be one of the
great experiences of my life. He had also declared a desire to walk Hadrians Wall dressed
as a Legionnaire. Howards sense of the ridiculous.
We have walked both the Ridgeway, with Howard, and Hadrians Wall – sadly without him.
The walks have been a fantastic experience – challenging, sociable, beautiful, long,
remarkable, enlightening etc etc Just brilliant. Great scenery, great company, great supporters, great beer and great cake!
After Hadrians Wall in 2009, this year, we’ve decided to become true Centurians and walk 100 miles in 3 ½ days along the South Downs Way. I’m actually starting to get excited! What a sad bastard.
Anyway, the team has done fantastically well with their fund-raising with in excess of £80,000 in 2008 (walk sponsorship and Gala Dinner) and £48,000 in 2010 (from the walk alone!). Our target is £60,000 from the walk this year – with this team, we can do it!
